A collection of Yoruba hand woven and hand printed textiles at the African Heritage House. These textiles will be exhibited at the French Cultural Centre from 9-29 October. At the left is a piece of “Aseoke”, woven by men on narrow hand looms. The other cloths are examples of “Adire” with designs painted with cassava starch using a palm frond or feather, The cloth is then dipped several times in blue=black indigo dye,. Then the starch is chipped off and the cloth is dipped once more to get the light blue colour. copyright Rupi Mangat
